American Bobtail

Overview

Overview of American Bobtail

The American Bobtail is a medium to large athletic cat breed that combines the 'wild' appearance of its ancestors with the lively personality of a domestic cat. Ranging between 7-16 lbs and coming in a range of coat colors, with both long-haired and short-haired varieties, its most distinguishing feature is its stubby "bobbed" tail that may be straight, slightly curved, or kinked. No two tails are alike! The American bobtail's origins came to be when a feral cat with a short tail and a domestic cat had kittens who also had short tails. These kittens combined with the efforts of experienced breeders helped create the American Bobtail into the robust, playful breed we know today.
