Norwegian Forest Cat
Overview
Overview of Norwegian Forest Cat
The Norwegian Forest Cat is simply known as Skogkatt (forest cat) in their homeland. These kitties have large, well-muscled bodies (9-16 lbs) whose regal looks made them the companion choice of the Vikings! Unlike the Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cats, a.k.a 'Weegies,' have a triangular head, whereas Maine Coons have a more square or rectangular head shape. A dense double coat that is practically weatherproof, bushy tail, rear britches, full ruff, and tufted paws help these kitties withstand even the harshest Scandinavian winter. Norwegian Forest Cats do not require as much grooming as you would expect for a longhaired kitty; weekly brushing along with a little more attention in the springtime would do the trick. A Weegie comes in most colors, from pure white to the darkest coal-black, except for colorpoints often seen in the Siamese or the Himalayan.
