Turkish Angora

Overview

The Turkish Angora's long flowing locks (5-10 lbs) and gracious looks made them the companion choice of French nobility, namely Louis the sixteenth and his wife Marie Antoinette; she actually saved these kitties during the French Revolution by shipping them to America! A long luxurious coat, fine boning, bushy tail, and tufted ears help these kitties withstand the snowy mountains of Angora, Turkey (present-day Ankara) while looking effortlessly graceful. Nicknamed the ballet dancers of the cat world, Turkish Angoras do not require as much grooming as you would expect for a longhaired kitty; weekly brushing along with a little more attention in the springtime should do the trick. These regal kitties come in most colors, with pure white being the best known. Their eyes range from gold to green to blue, with some even sporting odd-eyes (two different eye colors). The Turkish Angora is one of the oldest natural breeds around, with some scientists believing that these pretty kitties may be the originators of the longhaired gene in all cats!
