Help Your Dog with Hookworm

Hookworms are small, thin worms that live in the intestines. These worms feed off of the blood by attaching and reattaching to the intestinal walls with their teeth-like mouthparts. This process leaves open sores that can lead to intestinal bleeding, anemia, and in some rare cases even death.

At NHV Natural Pet Products, we have herbal remedies for dogs with hookworms that can naturally treat hookworms in dogs. Our plant-based remedies are formulated by a master herbalist as well as a holistic veterinarian with over 20 years of experience.

If you suspect that your dog may have hookworms or other parasites, you can call our free pet expert hotline at 1-877-937-4372, ask our pet experts online, or schedule a consultation with a veterinarian about these and other possible treatments.

Symptoms of Hookworms in Dogs

Most dogs that become infected with hookworms will experience mild symptoms, but one type of hookworm (Ancylostoma tubaeforme) can cause fatal blood loss in puppies when the infection is severe.

Each dog may vary in their symptoms, but some of the more common ones include:

  • Weight loss, or difficulty gaining weight
  • Anemia
  • Diarrhea
  • Weakness
  • Bloody or tarry stools

Support Tips to Prevent Hookworms in Dogs

  • Regularly pick up all pet waste as this will protect your dog and family
  • Remove contaminated soil as well as any rodents, including mice, rats and if possible, squirrels as they are potential sources of infection
  • Keep all sleeping areas clean
