Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Overview
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are descendants of small spaniels featured in 16th, 17th, and 18th-century paintings by famous artists Van Dyck and Gainsborough. These dogs were bred as companion animals and were used to attract fleas to save their owners from the bubonic plague, which was flea-transmitted. These floppy-eared pups were so well-loved by King Charles II, that he declared a royal decree that granted these regal pups access to all public spaces, including parliament (even to this day). Being one of the largest toy breeds out there (13 - 18 lbs), Cavalier King Charles Spaniels remain popular across America and abroad due to their loving temperament and adorable looks. Their beautiful, wavy coat comes in 4 different colors: Blenheim, black and tan, tricolor, and ruby! With their beautiful expressive eyes and wagging tail, how could you not fall in love with these dogs? Just be sure to pay special attention to brushing their tail and ears as they can get matted.
