Doberman Pinscher
Overview
Doberman Pinschers are a fairly new breed from Germany that came about in the late 1890s and was created by Karl Friedrich Louis Doberman, who worked as a tax collector. He created the Doberman to protect him when he had to go door to door. Bred to be tough, Dobermans are a combination of many breeds, like the Great Dane for speed, the Rottweiler for size, and the terrier for its heart and tenacity. It is likely that the Beauceron (an ancient herding breed) also contributed its genetics and coloring to the Dobie. These dogs weigh roughly 60 to 100 pounds and are an excellent combination of strength, elegance and smarts. With their high intelligence, scissor bite and athletic build, these dogs excel in obedience training and personal protection work. You can tell that you're looking at a Doberman Pinscher from their iconic red stockings combined with either black, red, fawn or steel.

Personality
Doberman puppies are incredibly powerful and clever and develop strong bonds with their human companions. They can be wonderful additions to any household as long as you begin socialization early. Dobermans are a working breed, so they require a lot of mental and physical stimulation. Adults need 2-4 hours of daily exercise, which is best suited for active households. Their short coats require minimal grooming, but they can be sensitive to the cold - a Dobie pup will definitely need a coat when the temperature drops! So if you want an elegant, powerful velcro dog who always has your back, you'll want a Doberman Pinscher!
