Irish Water Spaniel
Overview
The Irish Water Spaniel originated in Ireland during the 17th century. They are the tallest of the spaniels (standing 21 to 25 inches) and were bred for hunting upland game and retrieving waterfowl. They have a dense, curly, waterproof coat and they are often referred to as the “clown of the spaniel family.” Irish Water Spaniels are known for being mischievous, playful and willing to please, but they can also become difficult to train and overprotective.
