Labrador Retriever
Overview
The Labrador Retriever, also known as the Lab, the Small Water Dog is a smart, fun and loving dog originated in Newfoundland-Canada in the 1800’s. The breed was originally used to help fishermen pull full nets to shore. They later found a new job excelling at retrieving birds. Labs have soft mouths, which are good for retrieving animals, webbed feet for swimming and a thick double coat that protect them from cold temperatures. They have high levels of energy and require plenty of daily exercise. Labs love the company of other dogs and people. Today they come in two varieties: the Americans are tall and lanky, and the English ones are short and stocky. There are three color versions: black, blonde, and brown.
