Overview of Maltese
The Maltese may be the most traditional lap dog and one of the oldest dog breeds in existence! These snowy white pups were revered by the ancient Romans, Greeks, and many famous ladies, from Marie Antoinette to Elizabeth Taylor. It is believed that these little cuties originated on the island they are named after - Malta. Though they are small (4-7 lbs), Maltese's have big personalities and make exceptional lap companions! They may not shed as much as other breeds and are relatively odor-free, but Maltese puppies require regular grooming to upkeep their sparkling white coat, especially the long-haired variety! They need a full brush out several times a week and a bath every 1-2 weeks, which is something to consider if you want to adopt one of these dogs. Fun fact: the Maltese are closely related to the Bichon Frisé and the Coton De Tulear. The Maltese is an extremely loveable and playful companion and wants nothing more than to curl up next to you!
