FAQ
Yucca says it’s for appetite. My senior pet is overweight. Will it make him gain more weight?
No. Yucca root may help restore appetite that was lost due to injury, illness or stress but it will not increase appetite. An added benefit is helping to improve digestion and circulation. If your pet is overweight, they may have some nutritional voids or have difficulty with digestion, absorption and metabolism. If you would like to take a natural approach to reduce your pet’s weight while addressing their unique needs, our in-house veterinarian Dr. Amanda can create a personalized meal plan for your pet.
I adopt many senior rescues. Do you offer a discount?
If you’re a registered pet rescue, you can apply for our rescue discount code listed here.
Do dogs get dementia?
Yes. Like humans, dogs can suffer from neurological disorders. But to receive a diagnosis, you would need a veterinary specialist to make that call.
When is a cat considered a senior?
With advances in nutrition and healthcare, feline lifespans have been redefined in recent years. Cats are considered to be seniors above the age of 11 and super-senior cats are aged 15 years and above.
What can I give my pet for their lumps and bumps?
With advances in nutrition and healthcare, feline lifespans have been redefined in recent years. Cats are considered to be seniors above the age of 11 and super-senior cats are aged 15 years and above.
When is a cat considered a senior?
For cysts and other lumps, we recommend the NHV Lumps Kit to provide a broad range of nutrients that support many body processes including the elimination of wastes, strengthening immune function and scavenging for free radicals. For some breeds of dogs and cats, cysts are fairly common and may heal on their own. If they are not healing, it is best to contact your trusted vet to do a biopsy and run other tests. Keep an eye on these kinds of lumps in your cat or dog, and be sure to get them checked by a veterinarian.
- Ulcerated bumps
- Bumps that rapidly increase in size
- Lumps that may be hard to the touch (lumps that are soft and filled with fluid can also be a problem)
- A wound that is not healing
- A lump in the lymph nodes
My senior cat is very picky. How do I get them to take the supplements?
Fortunately, NHV supplements are liquid formulations and are easy to hide in food. The glycerin base is sweet to the taste and blends in nicely with wet food or treats. For picky eaters, we recommend using something yummy that your cat can’t resist like tuna in water. Just add the liquid dose and make sure to mix it well so your kitty can’t smell or taste it.
When is a dog considered a senior?
It really depends on your particular pet, their genetics and environment but in terms of rough guidelines, small dogs are considered senior citizens at 11 years old. Their medium-sized friends become seniors at around 10 years old and their larger-sized counterparts are seniors at 8 years of age. And, finally, their giant-breed pals are seniors at around 6-7 years old.
What are some other ways I can support my senior pet?
Every one of our frosted-face, furry friends is so unique in their personality and life experiences. And just like us, not the same thing will work for every pet! For our four-legged friends who are looking to shed some weight or who suffer from arthritis, hydrotherapy has been proving very beneficial. Mainly known for its ability to reduce discomfort and inflammation, acupuncture is now gaining popularity for aiding with neurological issues, gut problems, and even skin conditions. For pets looking to reduce their anxiety and improve circulation, therapeutic massage can be a great alternative to traditional medications.
