HOW DOES A NUTRITION PLAN WORK

Each pet is different. Whether they are young and healthy, ageing gracefully or suffering from a range of medical conditions, your pet's nutritional needs will vary. Different life stages and medical conditions may require that you alter certain minerals or nutrients in your pets diet. There is a lot of information surrounding these topics, and navigating this information can be tiresome and confusing. Dr. Amanda can develop a customized, home cooked nutrition plan for your pet. You will be asked to provide information on your pet including age, breed, basic medical history and current medications. Dr. Amanda will use this information to compound a customized home cooked recipe that best suits your pet's current condition. Please note the nutrition plan may take up to 5-7 business days. Along with a plan, Dr. Amanda will be available for a video chat to help you get started with your new nutrition plan for your furbaby. 

WHAT WILL I RECEIVE WITH MY NUTRITION PLAN?

Dr. Amanda will provide a customized home cooked recipe for your pet. This will include the recipe along with any suggestions for NHV supplements that will compliment your pets new diet. She will then be available to answer questions you may have regarding your pet's health and new diet and supplement regimen. *Please note we have a limit of 2 follow-up correspondence. Along with a plan, Dr. Amanda will be available for 1 video chat to help you get started with your new nutrition plan for your furbaby. 

WHY SHOULD I COOK FOR MY PET WITH A PERSONALIZED NUTRITION PLAN?

Homemade pet food is very helpful for a pet that is suffering from a difficult condition, like obesity, cancer, allergies, diabetes, and more. A personalized nutrition plan can address the specific needs of your pet. Please note that any homemade nutrition changes should be conducted under the advice and supervision of your veterinarian. If your vet has any questions, they are welcome to email Dr. Nascimento.

WHO IS DR. AMANDA NASCIMENTO?

Dr. Amanda Nascimento, DVM, MVSc., PhD completed her undergraduate degree in veterinary medicine in 2010 and graduate studies in veterinary pathology (MVSc. 2012 and PhD 2016) at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of São Paulo. She completed her post-doctoral training at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine – University of Saskatchewan in 2018. Dr. Nascimento will be hosting her own blog series and sharing her knowledge with our extended NHV family.

How many recipes are included in this plan?

There are three example recipes included, however a list of acceptable ingredients is also included so that you can formulate your own recipes.

Will Dr. Amanda also recommend any supplements with it?

Dr. Amanda will recommend any supplements she thinks will be helpful for your pet as a part of her nutrition plan.

What if I can't find the ingredients?

All of the ingredients included in Dr. Amanda's nutrition plans are very common and easily found at any grocery store. There are often some minerals that are required as well and these are easily sourced online or at health food stores.

Will this diet plan work for the other pets in my house?

This depends on how specific the diet is. Some diets will be suitable for other pets, however the feeding amounts will likely be different. If you think your other pet may be eating this diet, please let Dr. Amanda know when requesting the nutrition plan.
